The Fit subcompact car is updated, too, and the Clarity lineup expands beyond fuel-cell and electric drivetrains to include a new plug-in hybrid model offering 47 miles of electric range and 340 miles of total range. Lisbonne, Portugal —Most people have range anxiety when it comes to shopping for an electric car, but BMW is betting that at least a few potential EV customers also have performance envy. And now the Countryman gets an electrified variant, featuring a 134-hp, turbo 1.5-liter inline-three for the front axle and an 87-hp electric motor driving the rear. Combined system output is a respectable 221 horsepower and 284 lb-ft. A 7.6-kWh lithium-ion battery stores enough juice for up to 12 miles of electric-only motivation.
